Kingdom of Kush

An African civilization that helped shape history

Kush flourished along the Middle Nile, in what is now northern Sudan, for more than two thousand years.

Kush was not simply a neighbour of Egypt. It was a civilization with its own capitals, kings and queens, religious traditions, language and artistic style.

At times Kush traded with Egypt, at times it was ruled by Egypt, and for nearly a century its kings ruled Egypt itself. Through every era it remained distinctly Kushite.
